Our children have stopped going to school, our food is not enough. In our village alone, more than a thousand hectares were lost,” said Virgilio Baño, a farmer from Kolambog, Isulan at a “climate hearing” held yesterday, the first in the Philippines, joining similar efforts elsewhere in the world. AVLDA, a Galing-Pook Awardee for 2008

The winners for 2008 were awarded morning of February 12 at Malacanang, with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Local Governments Secretary Ronaldo Puno present.
“The two provinces of South Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat showed how the involvement of various LGUs, where not only livelihood but lives are at stake, can work in an inter-government and multi-sector comprehensive and concerted action to address urgent multi-territorial concerns. The duty bearers and stakeholders in Allah Valley spanning two provinces get their acts together on a sustained major environmental task, a feat that most LGUs in the country should consider in the face of ominous environmental trends,” the Galing Pook magazine noted.
