Chairperson's Message
Hon. Daisy Avance-Fuentes“The AVLDA should be moving steadily. The South Cotabato provincial government is implementing similar programs that the alliance has developed such as rainforestation and riparian zone revegatation. There should be a “modelling program” the alliance should conceive for the members to replicate and scale them up. I am committed to continue my support to alliance operation with yearly funding allocation. Let the mayors also support the alliance.”

Governor, South Cotabato

Vice-Chairperson's Message
Hon. Datu Suharto T. Mangudadatu, Al Haj, Governor, Sultan Kudarat“Given our flooding experiences until now in Sultan Kudarat province, there should a comprehensive solution by involving different sectors especially those in the upstream. We have sustained our budget support to the AVLDA, and designed our own bamboo nursery to increase our engagement with communities who are affected by floods and river siltation. We have flood mitigation project plans already discussed with national government.”

Executive Director's Message
Executive Director Abdula M. Bansuan

“We have been often challenged by many things that we need to address. But we have identified some environmental issues that redound to water as our integrating factor in resolving some immediate concerns. Our focus is watershed management, and we give emphasis on forest and rivers management. So far, we have involved a lot of people and sectors to back-up our projects. I am just happy that we are getting voluntary assistance, and some members developed their own program initiatives. Now, we have seen an increase of LGU budget on environmental projects.”

“To sustain our operation, our leaders should continue their support commitment. I hope our local governments would understand that our many of our targets cannot just be achieved so easily. There should be more “synergy and harmonization” of program implementation among members in the coming years. And with our current activities, we are also increasing our knowledge and skills on climate change and disaster risk reduction strategies. Ultimately, environmental governance will be improved.”

Abdula M. Bansuan
AVLDA Executive Director
